The life of Bishop Lawson finds its roots in Kinston, NC, the second oldest of six children born to Rev. Daniel Sinclair and Evangelist Bertrina Edwards Lawson on July 15, 1952. He was raised in Faith Tabernacle United Holy Church of America INC. At the age of thirteen, after hearing the voice of the Lord saying, “feed my sheep”, he accepted the call to preach the Word of the God.
He graduated from Stamford High School in Stamford, Ct in 1971. Receiving an academic scholarship he attended the University of Hartford in West Hartford, CT, graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management in l975.
In his theological pursuits, he received two additional bachelors in 1987: Northgate Bible College-Bachelor of Theology and Logos Bible College- Bachelor of Religious Studies. Additionally, he received a Master of Theology which was obtained from Logos Bible Institute on June 19, 1993. Finally, Bishop Lawson received his Doctorate of Philosophy in Religion degree from his home state school, North Carolina College of Theology in June 2005.
In 1978, he founded and organized Powerhouse Temple of Deliverance Church Inc., and remains the Apostolic Leader. This unique ministry serves as a voice in the earth proclaiming a Kingdom message through Kingdom methods with Kingdom manifestations. Thus the church’s motto: “The Church in the Hill doing God’s Will.” He is in demand for his relevant emphasis on the principals of: Present Day Truths, Reformation of the Church and its Government and the Partnering of the Apostolic and Prophetic Dimensions. Bishop’s main thrust is the infusion and introduction of relevant Kingdom ministry.
That same year he accepted an offer to work for an Employee Relocation Company called Home equity, as an Area Manager. His regions of responsibility included: Pennsylvania, California, Nevada and Hawaii. There he received hands on knowledge in the fields of real estate and financing.
Linking his talents and ministry with the community, he was employed by the Hill Health Center, as supervisor of the HIV/AIDS Department from 1991-2003. As a certified Health Educator, he targeted high risk youth with education and prevention outreach programs.
He along with Apostle Rick Daniels of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Bishop Thomas Suber of Charleston, South Carolina became the Founding Fathers of Kingdom International Assemblies of Churches, Ministries and Businesses, Inc. (KIA). This organization served as a covenant partnership nurturing and caring for pastors and leaders regarding accountability and integrity. This Kingdom network was a catalyst to bring ministries and churches together in a spirit of unity and community.
Bishop Lawson was elected President of the Greater New Haven Clergy Association in June 2005 and was elected for two consecutive terms.
Continuing to study, he completed the Clinical Pastoral Education (APCE, Inc.) Residency Program at Yale New Haven Hospital in May 2008. Currently, he is challenging himself to become a Board Certified Chaplain. He was hired as the first African American Pentecostal Staff Chaplain in the Department of Religious Ministries for Yale New Haven Hospital in 2009. As a Staff Chaplain, he is the attending on a Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU), two medical floors and an outpatient HIV/AIDS clinic as well as general chaplaincy coverage on-call.
His wisdom and religious journey has evolved and sons, daughters, pastors and Bishops have submitted themselves to his leadership and covering as he now serves Kingdom International Assemblies and Affiliations (KIAA) as the Presiding Prelate.
Bishop Lawson acknowledges three male mentors that have molded and shaped his life to who he will ever appreciate and revere: His Pastor-Bishop Kenneth H. Moales who taught him the importance of prayer and anointing, Rev. Dr. Edgar Lashley, who taught him the importance of biblical education and the adage, “…a sharp knife cuts better than a dull knife”, finally, Bishop T.D. Jakes instructions in contextual scripture analysis and experimental theology. Traveling and carrying the Kingdom message is a passion that has taken his ministry to: England, Japan, Korea, Holland, Jamaica, Jerusalem and many cities throughout the United States as well.
He is married to the very supportive Deborah Patton Lawson. Together they are the parents of five children many grand children and a host of spiritual sons and daughters.
